(Box at 6th & Grand by Library)
Artist: Mindy LittleCook; Title: “Gears of Life”
Mindy is an Art Instructor for the Ponca City Public Schools and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art from Oklahoma State University. Her artwork is inspired by the world we live in. The pure keepers of the earth are represented by the dog, bird and fish; they are the gears that mesh to create harmony of the elements of land, air, and water. The droplets represent new growth cascading to replenish the earth. The bright, vibrant colors create a feeling of energy.

(Box @ 4th & Grand)
Artist: Theresa Sacket; Title: “Curiosity”
Theresa is a teacher and artist.  This piece started as a collage of a watercolored hummingbird and flowers pieced onto a yellow watercolored background. Theresa went on to add this quote from author Elizabeth Gilbert:  “Curiosity only does one thing, and that is to give. And what it gives you are clues on the incredible scavenger hunt of your life.”  Theresa chose this quote because her life isn't driven by one defining passion but by lots of things that peek her interest and curiosity.

Public Art Projects

The Ponca City grain elevator mural project which has been in the planning and development stages since 2018 has been officially canceled.

After much consideration it has been determined that the project should not proceed due to the pandemic and setbacks of Covid-19 as well as the inability to reach an extension to the current lease agreement.

All donors to the project have been contacted and given the option to have their donations returned and/or preserved for future public arts projects in the downtown arts district.  The funding received and collected through the Hotel/Motel Tax and earmarked for tourism projects has been returned to the City of Ponca City.

“Ponca City Main Street is committed to the improvement of the downtown arts district and is looking forward to future public arts projects” says Rachel Stewart, President of Ponca City Main Street.

Ponca City Main Street wishes to thank all the volunteers, donors and the City of Ponca City for their involvement in this project and support of the mission of our organization.

The New Grand Arts District Initiative

Ponca City Main Street was selected in 2017 as a grant recipient to participate in the Oklahoma Art Council's Cultural District Initiative. This grant awards up to $5000 per year and $25,000 in a five-year period to help local organizations form an Arts and Culture District.

Through the Oklahoma Cultural District Initiative, the Oklahoma Arts Council offers funding, guidance, professional consultation, and formal certification of cultural districts throughout Oklahoma. Through the initiative, we assist communities in identifying and leveraging their local arts and cultural assets to promote economic development.

Cultural District Development Program

Grant funding is available through the Oklahoma Arts Council, a state-funded, grant making agency, to assist in the establishment of cultural districts in Oklahoma communities. Nonprofit cultural organizations must serve as primary applicants for each district. Applications must demonstrate support from community stakeholders including city/county officials, businesses, artists, and educators.

What is a cultural district?

A cultural district is a mixed-use area of a community in which a high concentration of arts and cultural facilities or activities serves as the anchor of attraction. Cultural districts can be found in communities of all sizes - rural and urban. Ideally, a district reflects its community's unique built environment and history, showcases the region's artists and cultural traditions, and increases social engagement.

Cultural districts act as an agent for positive growth in a community by:
  • Incentivizing new and relocating businesses
  • Stimulating commerce
  • Boosting tourism
  • Fostering civic pride
  • Enhancing quality of life
  • Increasing property values
  • Attracting a well-educated and creative workforce
