About Ponca City Main Street Program
Our VISION - Downtown Ponca City is the HEART of the community!
This destination district creates pride through the revitalization of its historic buildings and infrastructure; enhances economic prosperity through an environment of thriving retail, dining, and entertainment venues; and improves quality of life through special events and additional housing and guest lodging
Our MISSION - To serve Ponca City and its citizens by promoting quality of life through efforts focused toward economic growth, historical preservation, cultural development and revitalization of the downtown and surrounding area.
Our APPROACH - The Main Street approach is a comprehensive revitalization process that focuses on all aspects of a commercial district. It successfully integrates a practical management strategy with the physical improvement, addition of and preservation of buildings and public spaces, aggressive promotion and image building and the economic development of the area. The approach is incremental in nature fostering the long-term management of change and growth. It also builds relationships through volunteerism and a sense of ownership of the area within the community.
Our ORGANIZATION - The Ponca City Main Street Organization is composed of one staff member, the Executive Director. The Director is hired by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Director is responsible for coordinating, facilitating, advocating and communicating the image and vision of the central business district. The volunteer board is nominated by the executive committee and voted on by the membership. The board meets monthly under the Oklahoma Open Meeting Act, sets policy and supervises the Director and five standing committees.

The Four Transformation Strategies
Ponca City Main Street follows the nationally successful Main Street Approach which is centered around Transformation Strategies. A Transformation Strategy articulates a focused, deliberate path to revitalizing or strengthening a downtown or commercial district’s economy. A program’s work on Transformation Strategies should be organized around the Four Points: Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. Each of these four points are represented by a working committee.
ORGANIZATION
Provides communication, volunteer and leadership development and community outreach. Assists with fundraising to attract and retain membership to provide a financial support base for the programs and its goal of creating a viable, progressive and attractive downtown.
DESIGN
Improves the physical and visual structure and image of the downtown core area. Provides consultation and guidance on all architectural and historic preservation projects needed.
PROMOTIONS
Promotes special events and activities to enhance image, retail development, and to develop community spirit and pride for all citizens.
ECONOMIC VITALITY
Assists business owners and professionals in the area of economic development by maintaining and improving the vitality and marketability of the area. Promotes the district as a relocation and expansion site for prospective businesses.
